Jim Rohn had his opinion that "If you don't like where you, change it. You are not a tree." Kingsley Agorua had looked around where he found himself and decided to change it to suit his taste through his lens.

My earliest contact with Kingsley should have been in 2012 when I was a student at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. I spotted him at an event on campus where he was taking photographs.

Little did I know that I would bump into him again at my faculty - The School of Health as a student. I was curious as to what a photographer was doing in my faculty during lecture period. Time will reveal that he was a student too who was madly in love with his camera. This was all before the advent of traditional or nearly compulsory bridal showers, baby showers and pre-wedding shoots in the Nigerian Creative Industry.

Kingsley Agorua is a cinematographer with years of experience from Oguta in Imo state. He studied Dental Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (Futo).  He is the second born in a family of four. He is the creative hands behind KDigit Media, a renowned cinematography outfit  and Yanga Republic, a recording label company.

He let out his revelation in his soft-spoken voice, "I took this path because I loved the art of creating, I noticed how fond I was with gadgets like the camera and other media equipment, so with that love I started building my self and gaining knowledge towards the career. I also noticed that I went about it without stress. I got to realise early enough that when you do what you love doing, you do it without stress."

When asked about where his greatest motivation lies, he smiles. "My greatest motivation has been the joy of creating media content. To me, it's like giving birth to a new baby."

Challenges are what makes life interesting but overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. Kinsley Agorua is not one who has not been through his own bouts of challenges.

My challenges has been the constant adaptation to my client's choices and characters. Humans are dynamic, every day their taste for concept change, so I am always on my toes to upgrade my approach to business. The financial challenge of getting the equipment I would love to acquire for work purpose is always there. Equipment and tools used in the cinematography industry are expensive.

There are lots of young people who would what to take this same shot. Kingsley says with a breath of fresh air, "My advice to the newbies is for them to be sure of what they want and then be consistent with what they do. Consistency and practice will make them get to the highest point in their career."

Heads up, people!

Walking into a shop to purchase an item does not look appealing to me anymore. This is one of my decisions for the new year being that if something is not worth it then there is no point buying it especially trying to impress another fellow.

I have chosen to stick to buying experiences rather 'things.' One of my observation is that experiences cannot be stolen or compromised. They stick like your gum sap sticks to a tree.

So maybe before you buy that expensive Emporio Armani wristwatch or Jimmy Choo shoes, it might be imperative to checkmate if there are experiences that same amout can buy you. Don't get me wrong, it is as clear as crystal that you need to shop for clothings, food, phones or luxury from time to time but bear in mind that your happiness can't be tied to any item. That vibe you get is nothing but a fleeting one .

“One of the enemies of  happiness is adaptation,” Thomas Gilovich reveals. “We buy things to make us happy, and we succeed. B…

Chioma was that child that will send you hiding your clothes and wrappers far away from her reach for the fear that she will tear them in shreds out of the zeal of designing and making clothes. Her first skirt was made at the age of twelve.
"Nobody taught me to sew, nobody close to me sews, I didn't even know it was a 6 pieces skirt I sewed till I finally went to a fashion school," She says with an air of humour.

"I also made bags and a pair of slippers from an old Jean material that happened to be my old skirt. My mum marveled at the thought of Jean slippers then but now we see Jean slippers everywhere." She continues.
